End of an Era, One O'clock Jump Says Farewell

#1 Post by main_stem » Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:27 am

After 4 years, Seattles One O'clock Jump will be closing it's doors on Sat March 25th. The organizers nees a much deserved rest and a big pat on the back for all that they have done for the past 4 years.

OOJ is probably the watershed event that got a large amount of people into listening and enjoying traditional swing music in Seattle, as well as our reputation for being a fast city. I would say that we're aggresive but whatever.

If you are in the Seattle area on March 25th come in and say farewell.
After nearly 4 years of providing the Seattle dance scene with a place
to celebrate vintage jazz music and dance, One O’Clock Jump is going to say farewell so that the organizers can take a much-needed break. Saturday March 25th will be our last OOJ. We feel we accomplished our original mission statement: to bring jazz dancing back to its roots with authentic jazz music and have a fun weekend night dance venue. We are proud to have made a positive impact on the Seattle scene over the years and we would like to thank everyone that has supported us.

The final OOJ will be held Saturday, March 25th and we are going out in
true OOJ fashion by having a FREE TO ENTER ALL OUT DANCE CONTEST with $100 CASH MONEY going to the winners. No contest entry fee!! So, we prefer you do some lindy hop, but whatever you’ve got will do: Lindy, Balboa, Charleston, Mark’s Lindy-Charleston combos, solo dancing, dancing with Kevin Buster as your follow – whatever!! So, find a partner and brush up on all your awesomeness. Hey, you having nothing to lose, and only glory and $100 to gain.

WORKSHOP!! The Final OOJ class features Mike Faltesek and Darla Weideman teaching a 2 HOUR workshop in 20’s partnered Charleston! Starts at 7 pm. Will be amazing!

Once again, thanks to all the dancers, teachers, and DJs that have
given us their support. (And I must mention that we’re proud to have given some Pacific Northwest DJ’s their first-ever DJ spot – including Travis I believe, now national DJ!) Also, thanks to Sonny Newman for providing us with his sweet studio.

Now, 2nd & 4th Saturday swing dancing ISN’T over! Stay tuned for an announcement by a special someone.

Thanks to all,

OOJ Organizers (Joon, Lorraine, Sarah, Travis)
"We called it music."
