[Answered] Lyrics ID - Alreet, Anita O'Day

Oh, faithful DJs, you've helped me out in a pinch before, let's see how you do with Anita O'Day's run-on words in "Alreet" - here's what I've got so far, with the uncertainties/unknowns highlighted in quotes and question marks:

Alreet! It’s the latest saying you want to use, but don’t confuse the meaning
Alreet! You don’t have to be up among the birds in other words “????”
Alreet! It’s a thing that most of the fellas say about a way to greet you
Alreet! They’re just taking advantage of a fad to say I’m glad to greet you
Jump right in the groove
Don’t you dare to move
All the folks approve, do you dig me?
Yeah! I know that you do
Alreet! “??? Dash right in then I know that you will dance into a trance and soften???”
Alroot! Just a thing to prove that you’re “???feeling well and want to hear it more often??”

I may also be hearing things differently, so if you see some discrepancies in what I think I know, let me know!

"Alreet! You don’t have to be up among the birds in other words convening?"

I think the rest of your transcription is correct.

I listened to the Lang-Worth transcription version of the same song, but she sings it in exactly the same way, so no help there.

It's a shame that there isn't a good remaster available of this song! (Or is there? I have listened to the Classics, Proper and Master of Jazz issues. Not the Time-Life CD from 1984 though. Anyone have it?)

Hey, how are the Classics and MoJ compared to the Proper?

Yes, yes, I realize it's ridiculous that I'm asking, given what I just contributed to the discussion in the Mosaic thread. Humour me, please. :)

The Proper is just copy of the Classics, with added noise reduction. You can hear a slight drop-out at 0:27 that gives it away.

Masters of Jazz is often quite good, but this disc (Anita O'Day Volume 1 - 1941) is bit of a disappointment. 'Alreet' is noisier than on the Classics issue. The Langworth version of the same song sounds very strange, although the performance is good. (I wonder if the whole session was ever issued on CD? Langworth transcriptions are usually of very high quality. Ah, yes, Circle Records CCD-64. Ordered!)

Oh, I have the Naxos issue as well. Not good.

Returning to the lyrics, I think she sings "in other words, careening"!
