I think Bob The Builder was the DJ for that comp so he can probably give full details.

It's the Count Basie version from 1948 with Taps Miller singing, only slowed waaaaaay down. Ugh.

apparently there are two versions by Basie and one is slower. I'm not sure if it was slowed down or if it was just played slower. You can get both on the Complete American Victor set.

Yep. This is the one I'm thinking of though (I have the album). From the sound clip, it actually worked okay slowed down (Bob, you must have done that in software, right? It doesn't sound like you just used a pitch slider). It's one of those things where I'm used to hearing it at normal tempo, so to my ears it sounded strange.

I happen to have that song as well from a Past Perfect set and yeah it is like that from the cd

Wacky. I have the RCA/Bluebird comp, "1949: Shoutin' Blues" which has a much faster (155 bpm) version which sounds nearly identical except for the tempo. clip. Rayned, as usual, was right.

That was why I started including recording date in the name of the songs to be able to tell the whether songs are dupes or not. In some cases though, you also need session or take number to really be able to differentiate.

well assuming my track is the same as bob the builders (which I think it is) the only info it has in the liner notes for this song is relates to this song and two others, so what the liner notes say:

Yes that is very true, but how many labels supply that, just a hand full.
And if you are on Vinyl, many times you are lucky to get a date.

I know, it can be difficult. Getting session information is sometimes difficult too. Some of the compilation cds [e.g., After Dark] are the worse offenders for not providing any information.
