Ok, completely out of the blue, this tune pops into my head and I have no clue what it is. So I'll hum a few bars...probably pretty recognizable...

(and whatever it is, this is a clarinet that I'm humming)

Probably Trevor. Not sure though. (Greetings from Seattle, Mr. Proto!)

Maybe if you give us a little more info, such as type of group and style we might be able to help you out. If you're in Seattle ask me at the exchange.

Why yes, I will be at the exchange!

Look for a kid in a "Mosaic at Stanford" shirt.

The song's got kind of a mellow, bluesy feel to it for the duration of the line that I'm humming. It then follows that with a pretty mild but steady swing beat. The hummed part is the hook of the song...

Okay, I'm guessing that it's "Effervescent Blues" by the John Kirby Sextet

P.S. am I the Trevor that you were referring to? I DJed this track at Herrang.

I agree it sounds a bit like "Effervescent Blues" by the John Kirby Sextet, track 6 on this CD -

Absolutely awesome that everybody replied--I loved the exchange, and came right back to swing central to keep on dancing today.

But...that's not the song. :( (tis a good one though!). The Trevor in question is Trevor Gattis. Let's see if I can fish it soon...I'll post it here when I find out.

Turns out I'd asked him before and simply couldn't find it on iTunes.

It's "Blue Harlem" by The Continental Op.

I've never heard of this band. Where can I listen to the track or buy it?

Turns out I got it wrong. It's "The Continental Op" by Blue Harlem, a quartet out of England.

Annoyingly, they aren't on iTunes. And the only CD on Amazon that I see is going for $50+. Here's the album it's from.
