Swingable "other genre" music

#1 Post by Razz » Wed Feb 14, 2007 1:53 pm

Hey first time poster! I've been trying to find different "non-swing genre" music to play at our club's venue. I know there are those who find a straight beat to be sacrilegious to Lindy Hop, but we've had a lot of success with some of them, especially with recruiting new swing dancers. Some of the real crowd favorites/personal favorites have been:

I'm Hooked on a Feeling - Neil Diamond
Love Shack - B-52s
A Little Less Conversation - Elvis vs JXL
One Wild Night - Bon Jovi
I Don't Feel like Dancing - Scissor Sisters
Night Shift - Marvin Gaye and the commadores
My Girl - Temptations
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
The way you make me feel - Michael Jackson
Shakira - Hips Don't Lie
You Make me Wanna Shout - Little Richard

Though these songs are beginning to get tired. I'd love to hear what other DJ's are playing...

Try reading all the articles in the other section of the forum, devoted specifically to non-swing music:

From "Qlarification of Other Music"

I'm really confused... is "Other Music" non swing music or non danceable music? Sorry if I posted in the wrong place...

"Other Music" is for non-swing music. Both danceable and non-danceable music seem to be discussed there. Thus I am moving your thread there.

Whether it is a typo in this post or mislabled MP3, Night Shift was not by Marvin Gayes and the Commadores. It was a tribute song to Marvin Gaye (and a few other artists) by the Commodores (after Lionel Richie left the band).

Your version of "Hooked On A Feeling" is probably the original version by B.J. Thomas. I could not find any documentation that Neil Diamond has a version of it.

The Little Richard song is probably Otis Day and the Knights or Isley Brothers, are you sure it is Little Richard? I don't have to your version, it is possible that Little Richard has a version, but I doubt it.

Just thought you should be aware, not because I am trying to bust you for having inferior knowledge of the Commodores and Neil Diamond. I have pointed these things out since you probably have numerous other errors in your collection.

Nathan
