Has this recording made any leeway in the swing dance scene? I saw here do it on LENO last night. It looked like Sylvia Skylar sounding like the Andrews Sisters.

It has been played a few times, not by me though, I would play it if requested. Which it might be if she is playing it on Leno, might be a radio single.

I think the song is great for what it is intended to be.

It still is a low, but not as low as I thought at first, so I retract part of my venom......40%.

I felt it was good enough (even though it was a clone for the most part) to possibly draw people in to the scene.

The whole LP is not that retro re Swing, is it?

And the glamour that she brings would be great for the scene.

I must confess that I downloaded this track from iTunes earlier today. It's totally out of character for me and the kind of music I normally DJ, but I just had a feeling that it may come in handy some time, especially at a gig that is open to the general public. Plus Christina is a guilty pleasure.

Okay I feel dirty now, I think I need to go listen to some Ellington.

Can't say that I'm keen on Candyman. There are good tracks for WCS or just general dirty dancing/booty shakin' on the CD that I dig. I find Candyman kind of irritating both for dancing and listening. Unless it somehow makes it into regular rotation on top-40 radio for a few months, I doubt I'd be spinning it at a dance.

It would probably work really good for Ballroom Jive. I can see that scene taking a liking to it.

I think it's fun and it fills the floor when I play it. Funny thing is, the quick ending. I get people lookin' up at me like I tripped over the power cord and unplugged it.

More than just a second. Several short snippits. I knew I recognized the lead. As posted on another forum, it's none other than "America's Favorite Dancer" and the "Price of Swing", Benji Schwimmer.

Here's hoping this will get a few more folks hoppin' although I still don't really dig the tune. The rhythm just ain't right for Lindy Hop. The music seems like typical pop music drum machine with a pile of trombones.

I'd still love to hear some real big band stuff from Christina, not many vocalists have a voice to compete with a big horn section.

That clip was removed, but I found another of a live performance on Ellen. One comment amused me:

I think "Candyman" is a lot of fun and really catchy, and I love the video.

It's been getting a bit of play, here. I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. The "rhythm" isn't very funky, and it feels like there's almost nothing to play with. Plus, the sound quality (at least in one venue) is pretty low. It sounds limited beyond belief. I'd almost rather hear "Zoot Suit Riot."

I had enjoyed "Candyman" and "Nasty Naughty Boy" for their potential to invigorate a swing scene. So far, it hasn't happened, although Blues meant a little more success for NNB. "Candyman" probably invokes more neo-Swing than real Swing.

It gets people on the floor and that's all that matters to me.
