G-Swing - Swing for Modern Clubbing
I was in Paris (the one in France) recently, and went to an 'Electro' club. For reference, here's a definition of Electro - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electro_(music). It wasn't just an Electro night though. They played some Swing and Lounge music to start with, and had some Swing dance demonstrations.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the evening for me though, was when the DJ played a selection of tracks from G-Swing's album 'Swing for Modern Clubbing' -

It certainly went down well on that night, with both swing and electro dancers.

My alarm clock went off this morning to the sounds of 'cement mixer'
It was a good day, right from the start!
I might be able to pick up a few copies before I come home for Christmas. I suppose some paypal and mediamail arrangements could be made...I'll check what the price is in the record stores here and see if it's worth it.

Also, you might be able to just download it from fnac:

Does it work from the US?

Good to hear you're enjoying this stuff as much as I didla musette wrote:My alarm clock went off this morning to the sounds of 'cement mixer'

actually YOU can get it for less than $30curious wrote:Looks like the shipping is 9 euro or about $16 US.
I'm going to see if my local music store can get it for me
for less than $30.
9 euro is not $16, it's about $11.50
I looked at FNAC today and the G-SWING cd was 19 euros, or $24.35, so probably not worth it there... but maybe I could ship some to myself here.
BUT on Amazon.fr it originally tells you 14.30 euros for the CD, but if you go to checkout (by the way, your .com password works here and they already have your credit card and address and everything ready to go) it then tells you the CD is only 11.90 euros and shipping to the US was 10.70. Total of 22.80 euros, or $29.21.
If a few people go in together, the shipping only goes up slightly for each additional CD, for example:
3 CDs with shipping to US = 50.40 euros ($64.56) so only less than $22 each. And that's less than it would cost me to buy from a store here. Not bad!
I think this is considerably easier than me ordering a gazillion from amazon.fr and bringing them home and shipping them. So find a few friends and order

curious, if you're having trouble with the French for setting up your account, just set it up in the .com site first, with all your address and credit card info, then on .fr all you'll need to do is click the yellow buttons until the purchase is complete and you get an email confirming it.
also, another site with downloads is m6music.fr (but they are STUPID because the aren't compatible with MAC for some reason....)
and G-Swing is on myspace. you can put their music on your profile, and when you do, they'll ask you to friend them. there's a neat video on their profile of a recent party in Paris

Some better options along the same lines:
Verve Remixed
Verve Remixed Vol. 2
Verve Remixed Vol. 3
Verve Remixed Box Set

Verve Remixed Vol. 3
Verve Remixed Box Set
I prefer the 'Sing Sing Sing' by G-Swing to the RSL Remix on Verve Remixed, Vol. 3. I like 'Do What You Wanna (Ramsey Lewis) - Mr. Scruff's Soul Party Remix' on Vol. 2. From what I've heard of them, the Verve CDs are more varied, and generally have a 'chillout with a groove' style. The G-Swing is upbeat club dance music.Lawrence wrote:Some better options along the same lines:

By the way, Jesse mentioned this thread on his December 'Hey Mr Jesse' programme. I wish he'd played 'Sing Sing Sing' instead of 'Cement Mixer'.
