Booty Call

#1 Post by Naomi » Wed Sep 13, 2006 11:23 pm

Yes, I know. It's tacky, it's terrible. But I've promised a set of last songs to celebrate the booty, the ass, the tuckus, the rump. So I'm looking for great butt songs.

Please note, this all started when a "friend" brought the CD Monster Booty to Litp. This means, so far, I have:

Wiggle It
Da Booty
Do Me
Booti Call
Dazzey Dukes
Da Dip
Tic Tac Toe
Boom Boom Boom
Shake Your Thang
Baby Got Back
Whoomp! There It Is
Rump Shaker

But that's all one genre. Any suggestions? There has got to be more out there.

Thanks, Naomi

Does it have to be danceable? A couple that I have...

The Bertha Butt Boogie - Jimmy Castor Group
Buttcracker Suite - Bob Rivers

Then of course there's the Thong Song by Sisqo.

And not directly about the butt, maybe: If I Can't Sell It - Ruth Brown

You know one reason I love lindy in the park? People there have a very liberal definition of "danceable." These are great suggestions. I love the Ruth Brown suggestion - that also reminded me of the one great blues song from the musical Harlem Song, "No Sale."

Any hints where I might find the Ray Charles "Booty Butt"? When I type that into Amazon, I get Ray Charles & Betty Carter. Oh, and Buttcracker Suite turns into Nutcracker Suite. Who knew that searches could self-censor?

I did find an entire album dedicated to Thongs, which I found mildly disturbing. And some other appropriately inappropriate songs (Dennis Leary's "Asshole"). I'm amused by the fact that I have 5 versions of Love for Sale. I'll probably play Lady Marmalade - maybe the Labelle version, just to mix it up.

I've got 2 more days. Any more suggestions? Thanks!

Booty Butt was originally released on the LP "My Kind Of Jazz," which was rereleased on CD on "Genius + Soul / My Kind Of Jazz." Be careful if you buy that CD, because it's possible to buy a rerelease of "Genius + Soul" without "My Kind Of Jazz" tacked on...

Da Butt by EU (experience unlimited). It was used in the Spike Lee movie, School Daze.

Oooh, easy one. Palm Court Strut. Good Dixieland jazz number.

"Do the Palm Court Strut, shake your butt. Shake to the east, shake it to the west, shake it with the one you love the best. Shake that booty, shake it all night long."

Speaking of Ray Charles, how about "Shake your Tailfeather"?

I can't believe I forgot Kool & the Gang. I have to get that!

You put your backside in, you put your backside out, you put your backside in, and you shake it all about...

You do the Hokey Pokey...

THAT'S what its all about.
