Building on Jesse's 25

#1 Post by main_stem » Tue Oct 05, 2004 1:16 pm

To try and provide something productive, rather than Lawrence and my bickering back and forth, I'd like to see how many different versions of the 25 mentioned by Jesse in the "Exchange Top 25" thread. The goal is to provide some ideas for alternatives when it comes to bringing out these war horses and have fun.

Alright, Okay, You Win - Count Basie (Newport)
Bli-Blip - Ella Fitzgerald with Duke Ellington (Ella sings the Duke Ellington Song Book)
Blues For Stephanie - Monty Alexander (Reunion in Europe)
C-Jam Blues - Johnny Hodges (Sportsplast Berlin)
Easy Does It - The Ray Brown Trio (Soular Energy)
I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water - Cats and the Fiddle (These Cats Will Swing You)
I Love Being Here With You - Marry Stallings (Live at the Village Vanguard )
Moten Swing - Panama Francis and his Savoy Sultans (Jimmy Witherspoon with Panama Francis and his Savoy Sultans )
On The Sunny Side Of The Street - Eddie Heywood Jr (Begin the Begine)
Smooth Sailin' - Horace Henderson (Cronological Classic)
Splanky - Count Basie (Live at the Sands)
Stormy Monday - Ernestine Anderson (From Concord to London)
Take The A-Train - Duke Ellington (Soul Call)
"We called it music."

Fun! Here's some other versions I like:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bli-Blip - Duke Ellington Orchestra w/Ray Nance (Blanton Webster Band)
C-Jam Blues - Slam Stewart (Slam Bam)
Exactly Like You - Benny Goodman Quartet (The Very Best of Benny Goodman)
I Love Being Here With You - Ella Fitzgerald (Live at Juan Les-Pins) [I've been using this lately as a bday jam song which it works well for]
Massachusetts - Anita O'Day/Gene Krupa (Let Me Off Uptown)
Moten Swing - Count Basie (Atomic Swing)
Rockhouse - Manhattan Transfer - (Vocalese) [only joking, but this is the first version I heard and I always hear their vocals in my head when this song is played]
Stomry Monday - Lou Rawls (Anthology)
