From doing some searches on the new site, it appears they have enlarged their data base, and I do like the listen to track function.

Browser issues aside, I think the average person who uses the site will like the changes. I haven't had the chance to really look around, but so far I like what I see.

My grandma could walk a mile in the time it takes this site to load a page.

I'm no longer getting that annoying warning about "using an unsupported browser", and the pages are rendering better while using Mozilla, so it looks like they made some changes to accomodate browsers other that IE. Woo hoo!

I don't like that I have to hit "more" and select tabs to get information that used to just come up.

actual changes:
-bn.com "buy" link (which i appreciate)
-new boring color scheme (which i don't appreciate)
-requires you to register to read content (what the...?)

The bn.com links were always there before.

The great major addition is the sound samples they have added. In the past I would go to bn.com or amazon.com to listen to sound samples. It's so convenient to have them in one place with all of the other content that allmusic offers.

Regarding registration: you only need to register if you want access to their "Premium Content (music samples, Advanced Search, Editorial Features, Expanded Artist and Album Info)". I am unclear about what they mean by "Expanded Artist and Album Info", but so far it looks like everything that you could access before, you can still access without registering. From going through the site, currently you can access the sound samples even if you aren't logged in, but maybe that is only for a short time to get people hooked so they will register. So far I haven't seen any content other than the advanced search that isn't accessible when not registered.

I have absolutely no problem registering for free with a resource that I use all the time, especially if they are offering me something more than I got before.

but, really, the colors are almost as boring as swingdjs.com and 50000 other sites, why'd you have to do it? it doesn't feel like a crazy fan site anymore, more like Microsoft now

Apparantly if you want to browse genre, as well, as I was looking to see if they had info on skiffle bands and was told I had to register.

It's not so difficult to sign up, and not get emails from them. I have an email account dedicated to just stuch signups.

I'm quite happy with the site now... it basically has more features than the old cdnow site has...

Is anyone having trouble with the soundclips suddenly not being available for long periods of time? I seem to be able to listen to about 8, then I have to wait at least an hour or two.

The back button sometimes doesn't work. It sends me right back to the page I was trying to go back from. Just another annoying thing.
