Blue Sky 5, one of Washington, D.C.’s most popular swing bands, has just released “Tin Goose Jump.”

You can check out samples of some of the album’s tunes and buy the CD at http://www.bluesky5.com

The CD is packed with danceable and dynamic arrangements and features the sophisticated vocals of California singer Cassie Miller, whom many of you may have heard perform with Bill Elliott.

Tin Goose Jump contains 15 tunes, including 10 original compositions by band leader Craig Gildner. That makes it stand out among most small groups. So does the fact that all tracks were recorded to 2” analog tape using vintage Altec, Neumann, and RCA microphones.

Blue Sky 5 is a contemporary swing band and doesn’t have a neo-swing sound. The rhythm section has backed up Casey MacGill in D.C. and Philly and the band performed at a D.C.-area dance last November with Bill Elliott and Cassie at their request.

The CD comes with an eight-page color booklet that includes bpm for each tune, lyrics for the original songs, and a bit of background about “The Tin Goose” – a prototype for the Tucker automobile.

The band mainly plays in D.C. and Baltimore. For special events, it has had gigs in Charlottesville, Richmond, Virginia Beach etc. Many folks on this board who aren’t in our area may have seen Blue Sky 5 at DCLX in ’03 and ’04.
