Songs for Pregnant Lindyhoppers

#1 Post by Ron » Mon Jun 07, 2004 1:15 pm

I want to have a jam for a couple of people that are pregnant.

I was thinking of "Tea for Two" by Ella. Besides being about "two" it also has a line, if I remember right, "we will raise a family, a boy for you and girl for me..."

And maybe a song with "baby" in it, but they aren't really about a baby. But "My baby just cares for me..." is kinda neat.

Other suggestions?

And "A-You're Adorable" by Lithgow/Bill Elliott Orch.

It's a children's swing song, so it's appropriate.

Didn't Irving Berlin write "Blue Skies" after the birth of his first child or something? Maybe that's an idea...

Picture me upon your knee,
With tea for two and two for tea,
Just me and you and you and me, alone.

Nobody near us to see or to hear us,
No friends or relations or weekend vacations
Will have to know we have a telephone, dear.

Day will break, you'll awake,
Start to bake a little sugar cake,
For me to take to all the boys to see.

We will raise a family,
A boy for you and a girl for me,
Can't you see how happy we will be!

How about going for the obvious "baby" theme:

I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby, Fats Waller
Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby?, Louis Jordan, many others
Shoo-Shoo Baby, The Andrews Sisters
I Found A New Baby, Charlie Christian, many others (possibly a bit fast...)
Pretty Baby, Al Jolson

or one I've used for baby-boomer types as a birthday song!!
Blitzkreig Baby, Una Mae Carlisle

"Rhythm in My Nursery Rhymes" - Basie
"Rhythm Lullaby" - Earl Hines
"Mama Don't Want No Peas 'n Rice 'n Coconut Oil" - Basie

If they've got a very good sense of humor:

"She's a Wine-O" - Basie

Baby Bumper Boogie by Spike Jones. Don't play Billie Jean.

How about The Naughty Lady from Shady Lane by the Ames Brothers.

That is my all time favorite 'baby' related song.

This is a little slow on the draw, but there's "Anticipation Blues" by Tennessee Ernie Ford. It's about a pregnancy.
