I stumbled across a second-hand copy of "Simon Says - The Sights and Sounds of the Swing Era 1935-1955" by George Simon. He was a contributor and later on the editor of Metronome. This book contains samples of his articles and reviews from Metronome in the swing era. It also has side comments on his original articles in hindsight. A lot of interesting insights and reflections including an infamous bad review for the 1937 Basie band. Other items include on the scene accounts of the Webb/Goodman and Basie/Webb big band battles.
