I also collect vinyl and do have an entire Sweethearts of Rhythm LP (really nice photos) from the Jubilee show. But the three best cuts by far are those available on the 3 cd set. In particular, Swing Shift at 235+ BPM is absolutly wonderful. If you can't dance bal or fast lindy to that, you just can't dance! At least so I would have you believe.

how is the set in general, outside of the ISR content? it really looks like a special item

As a jazz fan, it is incredible! As a swing DJ I mainly play the ISR(all) & Elmer Fain (all) but mainly Stampede - it rips (256 BPM)

Tempos are as shown below. The new lines correspond to Ernie "Bubbles" intros which are annoying. I do not give tempos on the final one o'clock jumps because they are short and ernie speaks over them. Note that there is a pretty good spread of tempos, but not much in the 130-150 range. Oh well. Since I DJ a lot of balboa & fast lindy stuff, I get to use the fast tunes as I wish. They were all recorded live, so the sound can be weird occasionally, but they do give an excellent look at what the bands sounded like live in 1943-46. Several of them were in that time frame heading towards the 50's big band sounds decried in the adjacent thread, with unison and/or blaring horns and/or bass and drum solos that make them a little hard to DJ with.

It isn't often that dancers applaud a DJed tune, but last year at All Bal Weekend (Spy Bar on Thursday night) they did applaud after ISRs "Swing Shift"! I was amazed - and pleased

enthusiastic love for the JUBILEE set! 3 CDs of awesomeness with a great booklet!

Only problem is the set is excruciatingly ugly. Very very poor graphic design.

But don't let that throw you -- the music, sequencing (clipping together of disparate shows to make it sound like one program) and documentation is fantastic!

I also totally totally love the 3 CD Jubilee box. Lots of great fast songs, many from bands I've never heard of before.

I may get shot for saying this, but I think the Duke and Basie cuts are among the weakest in the collection and they're still good. The sound quality varies from good to better than any transcription disc I've ever heard.

"Welcome to the Jubilee Jazz Joint were the..." uh I don't understand a word between that and "...Jimmy Mundy" but it sounds cool.

You can get 86 full Jubilee radio broadcasts (almost 40 hours) from http://www.otrcat.com/jubilee.htm.

Unfortunatly they come as poor 56kbps MP3 files on 2 MP3 discs - So although you may not be able to DJ with them, it's great stuff. For only $10 they make an excellent sampler.

Now if only they were available in as good a quality as the Hindsight box set.
