Yeah, or sounding something sorta like it.

(Generally--after all, sometimes I come to a lindy hop dance hoping to get a few Charleston dances in the way a salsa dancer might hope to get a few meringue dances in at a salsa dance. What's more, I not only know how to foxtrot but rather enjoy the dance, so I can also forgive some sappy feeling that I might otherwise dislike in swing music.)

thanks for posting these Kat - the 2006 video cracks me up because the tag is "Kevin and Carla swing dance" and I see neither Kevin nor Carla, and a bunch of Korean characters in the back - any idea where this was filmed?

And as far as stylistic etc., I just think dancers in general, especially the top level dancers, have gotten a lot better, especially in expressing musicality in their dance.

I was at Rhythmic Arts two years ago when Swifty played a much needed 2 hour motown set on Sunday afternoon [a good change of pace] - all the top dancers in the room who definitely can bring the jank also excelled at west coast and it was awesome watching them all dance a totally different style.

Is Andy Kirk's Froggy Bottom jank, swing, or a combination? The song starts out jank and then swings hard.

hmmmmmmmm. tough question. not sure if swing is at the right comparison level. - it's jank vs. groove I think Froggy Bottom is jank AND swing. as compared to Diana Krall being swing AND groove; no jank there.

That's why I'm always so hesitant to spin that tune. The "swing" element makes me almost play it at a dance full of non-janky-taste dancers to whom I want to introduce a lot of "swing" sound, but the "jank" element keeps me from actually playing it!

The only reason for not spinning it at least twice per night is the SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH sound that can be heard throughout
