I did a few of these polls on the Yahoo list and I thought they were kinda fun.

How about these two bands. Which do you play more and why?

They are pretty different so I imagine most people will have a clear preference...

that's easy for me. I never play barbara.

I went to the first show in sac, and the second show in SF, and I saw her in Fullerton,CA so there is not a lack of interest in her music. I like her voice.

The reason why I play MMR is because I don't play anything like BM. It's all oldskool swing. pure 100% swing. no groove/jazz (whatever you call it) at Suzy Q's.

MMR is about as classic as you can get. The anti-groove. In fact, if MMR and BM played music in the same room at the same time, would the result be something like a matter/anti-matter explosion?

AS much as I like Barbra I play Mora a lot more. His music has got more range style wise while Barbra is much more of a nitch that can easily get over played.

that is the era he plays early 30's from what i know, he goes from 27-36, if im not mistaken

I don't own any BM, but I do MMR... so the answer is obvious.

I like all Jazz, but I dont' like to dance to all Jazz. BM isn't my dance taste, nor my DJ taste

For most dancers at the venues I at spin at: Barbera fills the floor.

IMO she is just a lot more fun. They both are niche artists, but to me Barbera's music is more alive, filled with feeling and emotion. She can take a boring song and bring it to life. When you listen to Barbera singing you hear fat beats that flow into each other. There is plenty of drive but it's not hitting you on the head. This is music with more "pulse" than beat.

I would love to hear Barbara fronting Mora's band.

PS: I voted "I don't play either of them" because 1) I don't have the Barbara CD and 2) I rarely play Mora's CD now that I have most of the originals.

I really dug the fact that Barbara on Friday nite of the Binge kept refering to the dancers as Lindy Groovers (those of us that went to the hotel to see her). I propose a name change for our dance. Especially with Rueben's definition because all music that we enjoy can be considered groove.

(I'm not actually proposing that Lindy Groovers could replace Lindy Hoppers, but I do like the idea)

Me too; I'd love to hear her doing more traditional music.

Hmmm ...maybe someone's next project. I wish I lived in a city thathad an audience for great live music.

...and they are both LA based... so it could happen. I'll look into it.

comeon now greg, that is an unfair statement to make. just listen to some of mora's stuff, itis just as alive and full of emotion as barbara's is. IMO you comment should have contained the discalimer that it is a "different" emotion. or maybe that barbara adds more emotion than artists in her vein of music. ????

She does a great job on 'Drivin me Crazy/Moten Swing' off of the Johnny Otis Territory Bands cd.. definitely more traditional.. I only have her on that, and a Doc Severinson disc, but I guess she gets a little more play from me than Mora, cuz I've already heard his stuff enough.. (though, I don't have his new one, I'll hafta get it)
