Hello,

I was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for a performance song for a swing team. Our team did ALHC this year, and we used Lil Hardin's "The Lindy Hop"... It was a good song, but we need something a little better this year.

Some we are considering:

Man From Mars: Cool song, but Hornets used it
Little John Special / Millinder
Bugle Call Rag (Metronome All Stars)
Duke Ellington's Kinda Dukish / Rockin in Rhythm (too long)
Ball of Fire by Gene Krupa
Big 18, Swingtime in the rockies
Shake it and break it/Sidney Bechet
Metronome all out / Metronome all stars
Runnin Wild / Sidnet Bechet
Bob Crosby / Big Noise from Winniketta

But alas, each of these we dislike for one reason or another...

Anyone have something awesome that is about 3 minutes long, builds dynamics really well, is recorded nicely,

There is a $35 Amazon/Tower/Djangos/whatever you use gift certificate in it for someone who suggests the song we use.

Thanks in advance for all your help. I'd prefer replies direct to dan@23skidooland.com if possible, as I don't check in here too often.

Hot Mallets - Lionel Hampton - The Lionel Hampton Story (Proper Box)
No Soap - Erskine Hawkins - Complete Erskine Hawkins 1938-1939

You know, I was just listening to this thinking "this song would make an excellent song for a performance."

I think I have that I could see a performance happening to it written on my liner notes. :-)

I have "routine?" written by Count Basie's "Yeah Man" and "jam circle?" written by Count Basie's "Rhythm Man," but I haven't listened to them in forever.

I like Lunceford's "Swingin' in C."

Apparently "Avalon" was the blazing piece played for the ULHS fast lindy finals, but I can't recommend a version, as I'm pretty sure I don't think I have any copies.

I love Shake it & Break it. If it's the speed you're looking for, I would love to see people perform to it.

Fletcher Henderson - "Hotter than 'Ell," maybe?

I was about to recommend Lucky Millinder's "Cherokee" because of its clarity, but it slows down for the last minute. Oh well.
