Need a gazillion recommendations

So, DJing lindy groove last night made me realize that, duh, I don't have a lot of suitable modern, slower, more groovy, whatever you want to call it, music for dancing to.

However, since I am me, I am picky about the music. I don't like playing blues shuffles for lindy hop, for example. Songs I think are up to the task are Lottie and Teddy the Toad by Basie, Tippin' In, Moanin', blah blah. Basically, songs that swing, have horns, and don't suck.

So, anybody got recommendations? I AM going to drop a big wad at Amoeba this weekend, y'know.

Hold off on your shopping trip and talk to the DJs at Lindygras. Matt Jones and I have the Friday afterhours and you can leaf through our stuff.

Plus, we'll be going shopping too. And drinking.

BTW, any CD shopping spree next week at Lindy Gras with fellow DJs? I'll be DJing the Sunday Lindy in the park and will not miss on the opportunity to get some CDs while in NO.

Lindy Gras will have plenty of DJs who lean towards the side of the music fence you are asking about. In addition, to Matt and Kalman, I will be there (Friday night). Bill B, Tomo, and Jeramie are also on the bill.

I need to ask Keith when the official shopping trip is set for.

i have to show up at the amoeba trip, i'm leading it. besides, there's nothing wrong with dropping a wad at Amoeba AND a wad in new orleans. :)

If no wheels have fallen off the exchange by then, and there is no visable train wreck on the horizon, I'd be happy to help with a walking tour to a handful of muisc stores like last year. But please realize I might not be able to pull it off.

The best I can promise is a map and a list of stores. LA Music Factory has offered 10% off anything in the store, (that not on sale alread) to LG registrants, and has by far the best local music selection in town.

Tower Records basically across the street and has a great local music dept.

Virgin Records is three blocks from there.

The Magic Bus, the favorite of many a New Orleans visiting DJ is right in that same neighborhood too.

Jim Russel's is about 2 miles from the FQ, just down the street from my house.

i got jelly morton double cd pack, i got fats walter, something called early ears of jazz ( a double cd with shit load of good artist from the 1920's). double cds of new orleans brass bands, some early ( really early) armstrong and somethign else that is escaping my mind right now.
