Ellington Small Groups/Units CD's
I have two and I really love them both:
Some great blues on the above album
in addition to a bunch of swinging numbers.
Several enjoyable tunes off of this one...
Rexatious, Back Room Romp, Frolic Sam,
a swinging version of Caravan, Stompy Jones, etc.
What other ones like these do people have that they'd recommend? I'd personally like to get more if they're anywhere near the quality of the above.

the ellington Small Units Jazz Archives cd is awesome.
all of the tracks contain either rex syewart, barney bigard, cootie williams, or johnny hodges (or a combination). EXCELLENT CD
of course the only reason i bought it was because its said "small unit" on the cover

From the previews, the tracks on this sound much slower and more quiet, perhaps even a bit sweet. Is that the case?lindyholic wrote:...Duke and His Small Groups Vol. 2

The reason I ask, is that I just got the first set, and it's already one of my favorites. If the second set is anything like the first, I'll snap it up!

While there is some slow stuff, there's a some awesome slow stuff. Yes, there's a few sweet things, but the rest makes up for the sweet stuff. Go get it now!Matthew wrote:From the previews, the tracks on this sound much slower and more quiet, perhaps even a bit sweet. Is that the case?lindyholic wrote:...Duke and His Small Groups Vol. 2
