Are there any versions out there that are significantly longer? Are they still badass?

I noticed in the RCRC routine, the one they used had an extra phrase. Yo Travis, did you guys add to the song or was that how it was?

Yeah - we repeated the first 12 8's (after the piano intro).

The 1947 Recording of this song is the only one there is. Basie never revisited it in later recordings and no one else seemed to want to cover it. There are also no transcripts of it being performed so it could possibly just be a song they cut to put on the side of a better known song.

I've got another recording of it, off a Nat Pierce album calledBig Band at the Savoy Ballroom that features Buck Clayton.. (who wrote the tune, with Basie, I guess)

I always thought it was a live album (and apparently so does All Music Guide), but it's really that the band played for a week at the Savoy in Feb '57 and then recorded the album in Aug of '57, according to the liner notes.

Is it any good?

Hmm. I like it, though to be honest, I think I like the Basie version even more.

This definitely sounds like New Testament Basie redoing an Old Testament Basie song. The original has more of a strong and raw driving feeling, while this version is more laid back and relaxed while still swinging hard. Of course this version is also a lot slower, which makes a difference as well.
