It was in this thread. I like the set, especially since it had some previously unreleased recording. I don't mind the duplication since i think the recording quality of duplicated material is better.

Thanks for the heads up, Falty. I missed the reference in that other thread. Good to see we have SOMETHING in common. 8)

The reviews on the Amazon site to which you linked also say that the producers remastered and greatly cleaned up the old recordings incredibly well (much better than the 3 CD Decca and the three, individually-sold "Essential Count Basie" Columbia CDs), so I'll definitely be interested in getting the set despite the overlap.

it doesn't duplicate the Decca but the Columbia cds. some of the songs are on the "This Is Jazz 11" which seems to be mostly Columbia releases too. If you have the Complete Columbia recordings (36-41 and 41-51) and the complete Octet recordings, then you might have some overlap too.
