If you were heading a Charleston Battle, what tunes might you pick?

Gimme a certain number of songs and I will give you a list. Though it's gonna be damn hard for me to choose.

Are you limiting it to music of the 20's only in 2/4 or just any music thats sounds Charlestony form the 20's and early 30's?

No songs are coming to the top of my head, but I would start looking at charts form artists like:

Fletcher Hendersion,
Fess Williams
Leon Abbey
Claude Hopkins
Luis Russell
McKinney's Cotton Pickers
Bob Crosby
The Chocolate Dandies
Don Redman

The above names will cover come of the late 20's and early 30's anyway.
I really like there sound. Defining what Charleston music is may be just as difficult as defining Swing music.

anything with the word "stomp" in the title - really - Black Bottom Stomp, King Porter Stomp, Mahogany Hall Stomp, Casa Loma Stomp, etc.

Early Louis Armstrong is also good - I just got a Louis Armstrong and King Oliver CD that's got a lot of Charleston - good sound quality also.

Sugar Foot Stomp - 209 - Fletcher Henderson - Ken Burns Jazz
Mahogany Hall Stomp - 185 and Potato Head Blues - 180 (both from Louis Armstrong - Ken Burns Jazz
or for an updated version:
Mahogany Hall Stomp - 202 - Louis Armstrong - Mack the Knife[LIVE]
Bugle Call Rag - 204 - Dicky Wells Orchestra w/Django Reinhardt (and his american friends)

and the top two:
Casa Loma Stomp - 292 Casa Loma Orchestra - Anthology of Big Band Swing
Black Bottom Stomp - 265 Wynton Marsalis - Mr. Jelly Lord

South Rampart Street Parade - 225 (Bob Crosby) on the Anthology of Big Band Swing would also work well.
