Sorry for the gap in posting last month. Not sure how that happened! Rayned's show was held over and enjoyed again throughout October.

November Thursday Guest DJ: Andy Lewis (Durham, UK)

Andy Lewis is our November guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Andy:

"For the last two years, Andy Lewis has been the resident swing and blues DJ for the group Lindy Jazz in the northeast of England, and in that time has been increasingly plying his trade at events across the UK. One of his biggest kicks comes from helping people catch fire on the dance-floor - and his main philosophy is that if he doesn't love it, he doesn't play it."

Enjoy! :)

December Thursday Guest DJ: Jason "JK" Kolucki (New Jersey)

Jason "JK" Kolucki is our December guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about JK:

"Based out of New Jersey, Jason 'JK' Kolucki has been a part of the east coast swing movement since the beginning of the new millennium. Whether Djing, running his own swing dance, booking swing bands, promoting the music or doing swing radio. JK brings a love of the music and the best artists of today and yesterday to his show for over six years! 'I just play what I believe people want to hear and enjoy. You don't need to be a dancer or historian, you just need to listen and have fun with all this great music.' Check him out on Yehoodi Radio and online at www.myspace.com/swingc2c!"

Enjoy! :)

January Thursday Guest DJ: James Pustejovsky (Chicago, IL)

James Pustejovsky is our January guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about James:

"James sometimes wonders what would have happened if his dad hadn't showed him that Count Basie album in fifth grade. Since then, he has amassed an extensive collection of high-, medium-, and low-fidelity jazz, which he enjoys playing for dancers. For his set on Yehoodi Radio, James will be featuring a bunch of great modern bands that play the sort of music from the 20s, 30s and 40s that keep us dancers happy, along with lots of original recordings by the bands that inspired them."

Check out James' blog for more of his musical insight.

Enjoy! :)

Here's the set list from this month's show. And here is a list of all the current bands that I included, along with links to their web pages or Myspace pages.

If you've got comments, tips on bands that I missed, praise or snide remarks about the ones I included, I'd love to here it--leave a comment on the blog. This month's Hey Mr. Jesse already introduced me to one I wish I'd been able to include.

Ksenia Apozjants is our February guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Ksenia:

"Ksenia discovered lindy hop in 2002 and now swing is a big part of life - dancing, teaching, and organizing parties and events. She started DJing at swing parties a couple of years ago and loved it, now she DJs at two or three swing parties a week at home and at some national events in Russia. In her set she features some of her favorite music from the thirties and forties and also a couple of old and new recordings by some Russian swing bands."

Nathan Malone returns to be our March guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Nathan's set:

"Nathan Malone from Texas returns for a second stint as Yehoodi’s Guest DJ with a special show. Over the past few years, a ton of music has become available via download services, building a swinging music collection has never been so easy. This month’s show will hopefully serve as a resource for those building and growing their collections. Every track on this month’s show can be downloaded via the eMusic subscription service, at prices ranging from 20 to 60 cents per song (depending on the subscription plan) (4 hour set!)."

Enjoy! :)

My Set list, a few things
1. I did not include stuff that is only available in Europe. So, the re-released Chron Classic material is not a part of the set. It would have been nice to include some of it.
2. I was true to myself, I am just not a big classic swing all the time kind of guy, if the set was not what you would have had in your set, send Jesse a message and volunteer to do a show, he is looking for people.
3. By definition, the show is aimed at the more casual listener, people who have collections that are less extensive than the typical reader of this Board. Hence, I have included some songs that have been around awhile and are not rare by any means, I have even included some overplayed tracks. This was not a set to meant to impress folks with obscurities.

April Thursday Guest DJ: Morgan Day (Riverside, CA)

Morgan Day is our April guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Morgan:

"DJ (Captain) Morgan Day has been swing dancing since 1997, but his love for swing music began well before that. His grandparents loved “jitterbug music”, and he grew up listening to big band greats like Artie Shaw and Glenn Miller. In 2003, after becoming president of the UC Riverside Swing Club, Morgan took up DJing responsibilities at a local weekly swing venue and hasn’t stopped spinning music since. His musical taste is eclectic, playing a variety of songs that fill the dance floor, with a special interest in modern hot jazz and swing bands that can be found your local jazz festival."

Enjoy! :)

You are all in for a rare treat this month on Yehoodi Radio:

June Thursday Guest DJ: Marcelo Tesón (Los Angeles, CA)

Marcelo Tesón is our June guest DJ on Yehoodi Radio. Here's a little about Marcelo:

"In February 2002 Marcelo Tesón recorded his first live band, the Dream Team at the Los Angeles Lindy Binge. That recording became the critically acclaimed "Live at the Lindy Binge" album. For another three years Marcelo recorded more great bands all across the country at some of swing dancing's most famous events, from the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown to Camp Hollywood to the Rhythmic Arts Festival. As this month's Yehoodi Radio guest DJ, he is delighted to share those completely unpublished recordings with you for the first time.

When he's not out dancing Marcelo is a sound editor at Universal Studios. He lives in beautiful downtown Burbank, CA with his fiancee Hannah and their cats Antigone and Oedipus."

Enjoy! :)

I wanted to give a little background to this set, because it's quite different from the typical DJ set.

From 2002-2005, I was in a truly unique position. I was recording some of the best live swing music available at some of the best swing events of the time. It started with the Dream Team's now-legendary performance at the 2002 LA Lindy Binge (which we turned into a fantastic CD that you can buy), but after that I spent years going from event to event with my gear, recording bands at the Satin Ballroom, Camp Hollywood 2004, ULHS 2003 and 2004, another Binge in 2003, and the Rhythmic Arts Festival in 2005. None of this music ever saw the light of day...until now.

This is an incredibly unique set, made up entirely of live music recorded at some of the most iconic swing events in our history, and never before heard until now. You'll hear the Minnesota Wolverines play "White Heat" live during the Liberation Finals at Showdown, you'll hear the very first song ever played by the Jonathan Stout Orchestra, you'll hear an incredible totally improvised Boogie Woogie tune by Carl "Sonny" Leyland, you'll hear an 18 minute 3-tempo competition medley by Josh Colazzo and his Feetwarmers, you'll even hear some unique recordings of local music acts from one of LA's most awesome live music venues, Largo on Fairfax.

With the exception of the Dream Team disc, these recordings are not available in stores, they're not on the internet, they're nowhere. I've literally picked the songs straight from the masters in my closet. This is the ONLY place you're gonna hear this stuff.

Hope you guys enjoy it! I'll post a set list later when I get home from work. Cheers!
