I would definately listen to this... if I didn't already have 90% of it and could actually connect to live365 at work. haha.

June Friday Producer's Picks: Yehoodi Radio celebrates Frankie Manning's Birthday
Manu and I were honored to join Frankie Manning (and 200 of his closest friends) on the "Frankie Cruise" for a week-long 90th Birthday celebration. Inspired by the fun, friendship and outpouring of love, we decided we should create a tribute show for this amazing man. Our musical selections include a bunch of tunes that remind us of Frankie. Yes, of course "Hellzapoppin'" is in there! Various versions of Frankie's favorite - "Shiny Stockings" - are generously sprinkled through the selection. Tune into Yehoodi Radio every Friday this month to hear our tribute to the man, the myth, the legend...Mr. Frankie Manning. Happy Birthday Frankie!

Jesse - I just listened to Joe Kennedy, Jr's version of Shiny Stockings on the Friday show. It's really nice. It's the first time I've heard plucked violin used that way. What CD is it from? "Magnifique!"? I wasn't able to find it on CD anywhere. www.gemm.com only had it on LP.
Anyone else think that the bowed violin in the last verse sounds like he used a pickup, not a mike?

It's on his album Falling In Love With Love (from the Definitive Black and Blue Sessions series). Rayned turned me onto this version. As I have mentioned before, you can find a lot of the Definitive Black and Blue Sessions CDs in the HepCat Records online store.RaleighRob wrote:Jesse - I just listened to Joe Kennedy, Jr's version of Shiny Stockings on the Friday show. Hey mousethief, just adding my cheer to the chorus here. Great set.

I actually tried to get him to do my voice-overs but we couldn't get together in time. Too bad.

You just satisfied Travis' need for Bechet...... Nice set list - it would play well in Seattle - come on up sometime!mousethief wrote:Reuben, maybe I'll drop some of this at my Lindygroove gig next Thursday. haha
Travis, that's nasty. 300 feet minimum distance, killer.

How'd the gig at LindyGroove go?
