Hey Southern Californians!
I'm going to be spending some time in LA over the next couple of years.

What individual jazz musicians / jazz bands are must-sees? Virtuosity over danceability is OK, because sometimes I'll be there with my husband who is more of a musician than a dancer.

First three that come to mind:

Carl Sonny Leyland
Reynolds Brothers (they often play at Disneyland)
Katie Cavera (plays with the Reynolds Brothers often)
Edit: four: Marc Caparone is down there and plays with all these guys a lot, too.

Oh, and Jonathan Stout is down there, of course, but I assume he was already on your list.
