Hey fellow jazz enthusiasts & DJs,

I've gotten to thinking that I can't find a decent, socially-"danceable" version of One O'Clock Jump.
When I say this I mean a version that is:
-4 minutes or under (unlike the "Basie At Newport" version)
-under 200bpm
-something that would inspire dancing (perhaps not the Benny Goodman "Greatest Hits" version)

So my question to you all is... What version do you prefer? *AND* Might you know of any version that meets some of the requirements I mentioned?

In my opinion, the original 1937 Count Basie "One O'Clock Jump" is the one you want. 168bpm, 3 minutes long, and builds beautifully.

Also check out :
Metronome All Star Band from 1941 (173bpm, 3:29) - some real all-stars in that lineup.
Benny Goodman's 1955 version (191bpm, 3:10) that goes big with its [glissandos?] towards the end.

I second the vote for the Metronome All-Stars 1941 version and Basie's July 1937 studio recording.

I third both the original Basie Decca and Metronome All-Stars recordings.

And for a few different feels:
- My personal favorite New Testament Count Basie recording of the tune, with some GREAT syncopations in the melody, found on the album "Live At The Sands" (187 BPM)
- A clarinet-driven feel from the Ernst Höllerhagen Quartett found on the album "Swing In Europa 1" (172 BPM)
- A modern rendition by the great Ernie Krivda big band found on the album "The Band That Swings" (184 BPM)
- A killer hard-swinging vocal version by The Delta Rhythm Boys found on the album "Jump & Jive 'Til One O'Clock" (181 BPM)
