Decca Jazz Heritage Series.

I never thought that this would be posted online.

The echo made it very hard to enjoy this album, but that was all there was......for decades.

I think this is the "Simulated Stereo" aka fake stereo issue.

Is there anyway to remove the echo with modern day electronics? The clarity is pretty nice.

This is the problem album.

Most releases of this material since have used this album as a source, complete with echo and fake stereo. My dream is a release of this album properly remastered from the metal plates or at least original 78s.

The only possible thing you might look for is the mono version - if there was one.

This came out at the time when mono was being phased out of production and out of retail stores. The store I worked in had duplicate mono and stereo sections!!! Passing craziness. Sam Goody's - one side of the store- mono, the other side of the store - stereo. I'm lauging just remembering it.

One the LP posted - I am not sure if it is the "SimulatedStereo" version. I don't quite hear the fake 2 channel depth. And the cover does not show the "SimulatedStereo" logo on the right top of the cover, so......I dunno..whatever

Now - on a small list I am on, one poster just uploaded all the Hines Decca to our server. I think they were an improvement on the LP, he said. Let me check. If you are allowed to join the group, you would have access to all the hundreds/thousands of music files there.

Later.

btw - Decca using up mono slicks by pasting "SimulatedStereo" stickers on them-

printed on cover "SimulatedStereo" - though they don't have the new logo and slogan on the cover yet..just "enhanced for Stereo"

Past quote from a man on the list-
1934-35 Deccas....aaaaaak! 3 to 4% off speed and many of them need a 4 mil stylus.
Have you ever noticed they were off speed? Guess he meant the 78s. Wonder if they were corrected for the LP?

Questions being answered~
David Lennick says -
Deccas in general are a good 3% off speed in the 30s, sometimes close to 4%
and
I got the mono issues of all those Deccas when they came out, but they were echoy.
Dave Weiner says -
the Decca LP did come out in mono; also came out on Ace of Hearts in the UK – think these were earlier transfers, but also with echo.
more later tomorrow - hope this isn't too much info.

Never too much info!

I have a few of these tracks on CD from good sources, but all from compilations.

I am having a problem figuring out just how good the gent's Hines Deccas and transfers are. There may be no way to tell w/o listening to them.

Some Hines Deccas on YT with pretty decent sound.

Here is one right from a 78 pressing - some surface noise, but clear as a bell.
