That sounds expensive. Proper Box usually does things cheaply and with not good sound.

For early Louis Armstrong in the best sound, I recommend:

Retrieval's King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band 1923-1924 The Complete Set: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000005R5L
Timeless Fletcher Henderson and Louis Armstrong 1924-1925: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00002410I
JSP Hot Fives and Sevens: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00001ZWLP
JSP The Big Band Sides 1930 - 1932: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00187PN38

Thx much. Just checked the Louis Hot 5s n 7s. - 27 dollars in the USA.

Look at the url - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00001ZWLP - UK

All I did was drop the uk and add a m to the dot co. This is a great way to check the USA v UK prices if you only have one url or the other. Did anyone ever notice this before?

I'll check the others later. Thx again! :)

Yeah sorry, I used the .co.uk because shipping is significantly faster to Australia, but they are essentially the same items in the same store.

No problem. I learned a new 'skill'.

For the King Oliver stuff, I think the Off the Record release is the best:

I agree with the others.

An worthy alternative is the Frémeaux series "Louis Armstrong Intègrale", which will (eventually) be all his recordings in chronological order. (They're up in the forties now, and a new set appears every few months.)

Oh, and, yes, avoid the Proper Box.

I gotta agree with Trev on this one - but from another point of view - if you're serious about jazz you should be serious about Louis Armstrong and the proper sets are not for those who are serious about certain artists (unless other boxed sets are hard to come by).

Will pop for the JSP set, instead. Thx!
