I'd like to hear what you think of these. I'm looking for some Earl Hines recordings (yeah, I saw the thread on him).

The Chrono classic 1934-37, is a great CD. For me it's one of those CD's that I am listening to over and over again. Sometime I do that trying to find good dance tracks but with this CD I am listening to it over and over again because I love it.

Another Monday, date is Ok for listening, not good for dancing

Horace Henderson would fit in under the criteria.

I just picked up a Jimmy Coe LP on Delmark that's pretty good.. it leans a little towards jump blues, but the musicianship is good enough to forgive that transgression. :)

This is off topic, but, KevinSchaper, when I first saw your avatar out of the corner of my eye, I thought it was Vash. Heh.

(In case you're not as much of a nerd as I am, this is Vash.)

I've done a little research into Chicago jazz and swing era artists. Here is a list of artists that I found who recorded under their own name in Chicago pre-1945. I have some of these artists but I see I have allot of CD's to buy.

He was based out of Chicago from 1925 to sometime in the early 1930's. I was looking for artists who had their home base in Chicago and recorded while they were in Chicago. I am looking to buy allot of stuff to be able to create a set with Chicago sounds of artists from that period.

Random Luis Russell sidenote:
His daughter, Catherine Rusell, is an amazing female vocalist who has sung for dancers in NYC. His widow, Carline Ray, is quite the accomplished bass player, (including having played in the Sweethearts of Rhythm), and I got to dance with her at Yehoodi's 5th Anniversary :)
