Hey everyone. I was watching "Stage Door Canteen", a classic B&W film from the '40s with Kay Kyser and Benny Goodman... and I got to thinking, I don't really hear many Kay Kyser tunes DJ'd or even spoken of.
In the film he sounded fantastic. Why is it that we don't hear many of his songs? Or am I mistaken?
Here is the clip, by the way: http://youtu.be/YiQnDyAO9rg?t=33m22s
(Unless I'm mistaken and that's not Kay Kyser. Although the bandstands read "KK")

Re: Kay Kyser Tunes?
He had a very good band that got better and better as they rolled into the 40s. His 30s work is very light-weight and relies on a lot of novelty tunes and sweet ballads.Jose Tello wrote:Hey everyone. Some of his 40s pop tunes are very good - SLOW BOAT TO CHINA seems to have been a big hit and gets reissued all the time.

PUSHIN' SAND is the one title by KK that got a fair amount of play over the years as one of his few excursions into swinging instrumental tunes.
See what you think!
