PE6-5000 seems correct.

It is the number of the hotel Pennsylvania. Apparently you can still dial it.

Speaking of which, the phone number for Birdland is JUdson6-5454 (like the Hotel Pennsylvania is PEnnsylvia6-5000). Slim Galliard mentions it several times on his live album, Slim Galliard at Birdland 1951. I highly recommend it.

it's ancient thread re-kindling time.
i'm really enjoying "san francisco bay blues" from don ewell's "denver concert with barbara dane" album (available on emusic and amazon mp3). i also heard barry "big b" brenner do a great version at inspiration weekend (i think) last year (streaming mp3 online).
do you know of another good version?
any other san francisco songs you recommend?

"San Francisco Blues" by Peggy Lee is always popular. Her album Blues Cross Country provides many "local" songs.lipi wrote:any other san francisco songs you recommend?

thanks! i just downloaded this from emusic and i like it. there's a funny glitch 2 or so seconds in--the sound seems to switch between channels a bit. do you have that on your copy, too, or is that a glitch in emusic's encoding?zipthebird wrote:Every once in a while, I play the version on Blues over Bodega, by Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band.
that album is unfortunately out of print. it's definitely on my wishlist, though!JesseMiner wrote: "San Francisco Blues" by Peggy Lee is always popular. Her album Blues Cross Country provides many "local" songs. :)

Happens in my copy too, but if you fade it up a little slower than normal, nobody will notice.lipi wrote:thanks! i just downloaded this from emusic and i like it. there's a funny glitch 2 or so seconds in--the sound seems to switch between channels a bit. do you have that on your copy, too, or is that a glitch in emusic's encoding?zipthebird wrote:Every once in a while, I play the version on Blues over Bodega, by Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band.
