Metadata is data about data. MP3 tags are example of metadata. Track name, album name, artist are metadata. Music metadata are available for example on http://musicbrainz.org/.

What would be your swing DJ metadata ?

I've found the folowing metadata:

- MPM (mesure per minute)
- DanceStyle: LindyHop,Balboa,Shag...
- IntroTime: time to skip at the beginning of a song
- OutroTime: time to skip at the end of a song
- RecordingDate: year of recording
- ReleaseDate: year of CD release
- RecordingQuality: LowQuality,MediumQuality,HighQuality
- JazzRoutine: ShimSham,Stroll,BigApple...
- Theme: BirthdayJam,JamSession
- TrackOrigin: CD,AmazonMP3, ...
- Energy: LowEnergy,MediumEnergy,HighEnergy
- ExternalReferenceId: CD id,Amazon id, ...

In the long term I would to set up an internet site to share swing DJ metadata (like musicbrainz for music metadata). For example sharing tempo.

For those of us that are music nerds things like:

- Recording Date and location (to identify recording session)
- Label, and any identifiers for recording or releases
- Personnel and soloists
- Composer and Arranger
- Bandleader
- Original release artist and album artist (useful for collections)

That's all that comes to mind at the moment.

Also I'm not sure what the copyright is on this sort of information. I know that some re-issuers (like Mosaic) go to great lengths to get really accurate data on each track so I don't think they'd be happy about people sharing their hard work. [/list]
