Human search request: jazz/swing history thread

#1 Post by lipi » Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:48 pm

Can't find the thread I'm looking for and am hoping someone remembers some helpful search terms or has it bookmarked.

Jonathan (or possibly Paul? or maybe Rayned?) posted a list of tracks tracking (haha--sorry) jazz music history. In my deranged mind the list was a dozen or so tracks, and included comments of the "here you can hear the influence of those New Orleans cats and their four-to-the-bar bass for the first time", etc. (And, no, it's not Rayned's "Swing 101" thread.)

Did I dream up this thread? Was it somewhere else?

In the mean time, back to reading every thread in order...

There are limits on what you can search for using the forum 'Search' option.

You might find a google search helps. Allows you to search for a phrase. See this thread:

I actually always use site:swingdjs.com etc. to search the forum. Didn't help me this time, since I didn't remember any particular phrase that was used in this mythical post. Maybe it was all a pleasant dream. Thanks anyway!

Any chance it was on another forum like maybe Peter Loggin's abandoned, most recent forum?
Will big bands ever come back?

It's possible. (Regarding Peter's forum: I wish he'd archived that. (Or that I had thought to do so.))

Me, too. There was much good stuff on there. Last time I checked, that Wayback Machine web site had little to nothing of it archived.

Great site

Does anyone know why he didn't (and why 'dancehistory.org' disappeared)?

I assume it disappeared because Peter simply lost interest in it. He moved to New Orleans and is very much into the social dance scene and jazz scene there. I haven't talked to him in a few years, though. Someone else here might have a better idea.
