What Do You Think of Washboards?

#1 Post by SpuzBal » Mon Jul 28, 2003 11:41 pm

Though I've been a big fan of washboards as an instrument for a while, I recently picked up this CD, as well as "1925-1937" by Willie "The Lion" Smith, and have become an even bigger washboard fan.

The music on the former CD basically epitomizes my taste in music, especially "Pepper Steak."

So what do you all think of washboards?

The link doesn't appear to be working.

It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more money. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that money.

The only exposure I have to washboards is the Dream Team band at the Lindy Binge. I thought it was awesome. The samples available for that CD seem cool.

I see the washboard as evidence of how irrelevant the instrument is, and how important the musician..

George Reed played some bad ass "wooden-chair" in a musicality class at SONW.. but that doesn't mean I'm gonna seek out "drum sticks on a chair" recordings. :)

Hmm, very true.

Although I think that I actually prefer the sound of a washboard to that of a drum set.
