Yacht Club Swing (version ID)

#1 Post by Jonas » Fri May 28, 2010 11:27 pm

On which album can I find this [live/transcript?] version of Fats Waller's Yacht Club Swing:

I have the EPM/Jazz Archives "New York Legends" album and the Proper Box "Handful of Keys", but they seem to include the same studio version of the song.

Thanks Haydn, I've already ordered the CD! It'd be worth the price for that track alone, but I listened to the CD on the Amazon website and realized that it includes some other great tracks recorded live at the Yacht Club with very good sound quality.

Yeah, that's a really good collection of Fats.

There are some great CDs on the Buddha label (you can find them with the 'label' field on Amazon)

No problem - as I said before, check out the other Buddha CDs you can find on Amazon, they've got some good stuff.

This is a super nerdy question, but do you have the recording date/details for that version? I can't afford to impulse buy, but I can (almost) justify a carefully thought-out, planned purchase of songs I don't own...

Radio Broadcast "Yacht Club", New York, October 24, 1938.
Fats Waller (p), Herman Autrey (tp), Gene Sedric (cl,ts), Al Casey (g), Cedric Wallace (b), Slick Jones (d).
This was just 5 days after the studio version had been recorded (with the same personell)

That recording has some serious thump to it. You may want to go easy on the bass when dj-ing it.

Jonas, here's the same version in another collection:

This album is available in Russia, so I think it's also available in Europe. :)
