Chick Webb, "What Is This Thing Called Love?"?

#1 Post by lipi » Mon Oct 12, 2009 12:29 pm

This weekend I asked a DJ about a track she played, and she said it was Webb's "What Is This Thing Called Love?". I foolishly believed her and did not ask for the album info (how hard could it be to find?).

So.

Allmusic doesn't list it, nor does the discography I have at home. On the off-chance she had the track labelled properly, and someone else has this hidden gem, I'll ask here: does anyone know what album this is on?

I don't remember now whether there was a vocal or not. I checked under Ella's name, too, just in case, but the only version I find for her is the Song Books one.

(Yes, I'll try tracking down the DJ and asking her directly, too.)

Hmmm, maybe she misspoke and what she played was this version by Artie Shaw, not Mr. Webb? Or was she off on both title & artist with Jimmie Lunceford's "What is This Thing Called Swing"? ? Just guessing....
