Note: I'm *not* looking for music to play at a Swing event.
Had to put that first. What we're planning to do is lindy bombing in regular clubs. So we'll wear our club shirts and drop into random clubs and show them some real dancing to get them interested in swing dancing (and then hopefully into the right music).
The thing is: none of us is actually into typical club music ... nor do we have much knowledge of what is currently being played there ...

Can you give me some recommendations for music that is

• similar to what is played in regular clubs (hip hop, house, electronic, rock, etc.)
• still somewhat fun to "lindy hip hop" to
• doesn't make us roll on the floor in agony

Obviously we will not know what they are going to play. But we want to prepare a little, e.g. by testing out how certain variations and styling work with the music. How to make the moves look better with their music. For example, getting used to throwing in crazy figures even when the music is boring and has no breaks ... get used to this crossover dancing in general.
And of course we don't want to go all hardcore with the music for our training sessions. We still want to have some fun...

On my list:

• Xscape - Who's That Man? (Hip-Hop)
• Koop - Come To Me (Electronic / Pop)
• Caravan Palace - Jolie Coquine (Electro-Swing)
• Club des Belugas - Some Like It Hot (Electronic/Nu-Jazz)
• Peter Fox - Haus am See (Reggae-Hip-Hop)

But all of these are more from the "novelty" section than "true non-swing". Any other recommendations for this experiment/project? What was the craziest non-swing stuff you've ever made people lindy hop to?

At the MLX09, one of the guest DJs dared to play "Peter Fox - Haus am See" (Berlin Reggae-Hip-Hop that has been in the top 40 for 10+ months now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMqIuAJ92tM ), and of course I was somewhat able to dance Lindy Hop to it ...

Did you do such a Lindy bombing yet?

We lindy bomb places here in NZ sometimes. It's great fun and really tests your musicality dancing to stuff that's different or that you don't know.

Balboa works to almost anything! It's great for hip hop!
MIght work for drum n bass?

Go to clubs that play a mix of music (metal, pop, hip hop) and you'll be bound to find something you can dance to. Also, heaps of dj'd clubs will have stuff from bands like Stray Cats, Brian Setzer, and other neo swing bands...etc
Just go ask the dj to play something like that....

Bring flyers with you with a web site or contact info!

edit: our local club used to do shim sham to Sexyback at the bars... is Timberlake still popular?
