i checked allmusic and the discographies i had handy (read: none, because everything is in boxes following a move), but i can't find any recording of "'t ain't what you do (it's the way that you do it)" by duke ellington.

does anyone know of one and what album i may find it on? bonus points if it's on emusic, itunes, or amazon mp3.

failing that, any preferred ellington tracks for a shim sham? i could use "tuxedo junction", i suppose, form the memories of the big band era album.

Just listened to a few tracks, and I'm not sure if Ellington tracks work for a shim-sham.

Duke did not record 'Tain't What You Do, at least not according to Tom Lord's discography.

It's hard to find Ellington tracks with a straight AABA structure and without weird bridges and breaks. The only mid-tempo song I can think of that is straight enough is Take the A-Train.

I could neither find that song by the duke on AMG, nor on the 40 CD "The Duke" box set that I have.

I define mid-tempo as 150-200 bpm. And I've never seen Frankie lead a shim-sham faster than that (and I suppose I never will now that he's gone)

My verdict on Reuben as being condescending still holds though. As a moderator, he's not setting a very good example of conduct on this forum with his frequent unfriendly remarks.

all he did was state an opinion about mid-tempo shim shams? why get all bent out of shape?

and besides, it led to the posting of a fun fast shim sham video with Frankie, so what's the real harm?

A forum of only tacit agreement is boring.

My favorite Frankie Shim-Sham moment was him leading it to Chick Webb's Stompin' at the Savoy. He was so excited. Don't think it's on video though.

And Anton, I think you're being way to sensitive. Stating an opinion about a dance is nothing like issues we've had in the past around here of arguments that led to name calling.

This wouldn't be a very interesting forum to read if we weren't bouncing our opinions off one another, and we all do it in different ways.

I don't mind your opinions at all. It's just the way you keep jumping into the middle of conversations with those hostile, slightly off-topic remarks that is starting to get on my nerves.
