A lot of his stuff just got louder. I am not even that keen on the wartime Deccas.

The 1957 live Town Hall Concert is good. I recommend that one.

There was one from the 50s on Capitol - skip it...something about the Sahara. * I dont see this one listed on Amazon. I think it was a small group recording done live in Vegas.

OTOH - Some Jazz fan sent my a copy of a 50s VERVE 10 inch LP that was excellent, only one dud tune - a ballad - and the rest were wailing and not too '50s' and he had a livelier version of POMPTON TURNPIKE than the original Bluebird. Is this one on CD? He did not tell me the title. The dud tuine was DEEP PURPLE (Great song, dud rendition.)

Anyone know more or have a different opinion?

I agree completely. I'm a big fan of a lot of his late 30s stuff, but for some reason it got lame (ironic for someone that openly made fun of "sweet" music). That Everest album was so disappointing I haven't looked at any of his other 50s stuff.

I keep saying that a good remaster/reissue of his 30s/early 40s material is long overdue.

Er ... did you know the 'Swing Era' ended not long after WW2? This might be a factor, cause or reason for said trend.

Well - that LP the guy copied for me was the best post-war Barnet I have ever heard, though not sure where I am placing the Town Hall Concert.

Hmmmm - this explains a lot - they are from 1947 on Mercury, not Verve or Norgran.

Yes, it was more of a creative fall or something.

These 5 guys (named Moe - haha) all love the CD.

OK - my retraction - I just sampled all of the tracks and they are nowhere near as bad as I remember them.

I need to hear them again. Much better than I recall...and the sound is very good. The sound on the old issues sucked.
