USA Musical Journey

#1 Post by russell » Wed Feb 18, 2009 5:17 pm

I am heading to the States for 5 weeks over May-June. It will be a combination of a dance journey (taking in Lindy Hop, Blues, Balboa and West Coast Swing) and and an exploration of the roots of American music.
It will take in New York (for Frankie), St Louis (blues weekend), Memphis, New Orleans, Cleveland (All Balboa) and New Jersey (Liberty Swing).

Key interests in all these areas will be listening to great live music and visiting record shops :D

Interested in any recommendations from locals regarding venues, favourite bands and record shops to enhance my musical adventure. My music interests lie in Swing (of course), Blues and Soul.

Hopefully I will see a lot of you at Frankie (amongst the masses)(maybe we should have a DJ summit there) or at the other events.

I'll be in the States for almost the same time period and at least in NYC (Frankie) and Cleveland (All Balboa).

Chicago's got some great live music.

And we've got Jazz Record Mart. Great place to lighten up your wallet.

Unfortunately Chicago is not on my itinerary - would love to check out Chicago one day.
