I'll have to look for those. Allmusic states that George Kelly was with both the original and latter version of the Sultans. I have his Don Redman cd, but haven't seen the others.

ok, I want everyone on here who shopped at Louisiana Music Factory to post their buys; here's mine:

Evan Christopher 'Clarinet Road' (clarinetist with Duke Heitger who played in the Friday evening band at Lindygras 2005)
George French Quintet 'It's a Beginning' (they played Friday late night -- awesome awesome blues).
The Quintessential Milton "Mezz" Mezzrow
Duke Heitger's Big Four "Prince of Wails" [great CD, too bad he was out of town for Lindygras]
Louisiana Piano Rhythms [mix of Jazz, Zydeco, Country and rock pianists including Jelly Roll and Dr. John - some nice tracks by Allen Toussaint]
Sidney Bechet "Blues in Thirds 1940-1941" [great CD, both Kevin T and Travis have this but i get dibs to spin from it for a while! ;-) ]
New Orleans Jazz Vipers "Live on Frenchmen Street" [recorded live at the Spotted Cat which was one of my fave hangouts] - they played at the Sunday afternoon event.
Jack Teagarden's Big Eight and Pee Wee Russell Rhythmmakers
Louis Prima and his New Orleans Gang "Chronogical Classics 1937-1939"
Basin Street 2004 Festival Sample [courtesy of Lindygras]

Good, moderately tempo'd, fun music. Can't wait to get others from this collection.
I just bought Volume 2 from Reader's Corner in Raleigh. It's surprisingly killer. I don't recognize any of the musicians or most of the track titles (If You're a Viper is the exception) and yet the music is strongly reminiscent of Fats Waller with a horn section. I played it for nearly every dancer I encountered during the weekend and people seemed to really dig it. I want the other 3 CDs now too...

Ella - Early Years, Part 2
Lionel Hampton - Proper
Billie Holiday - Proper (yeah, the new packaging is a lot slimmer)
Fats Waller - Proper

Three Proper boxes and the Ella set should count as ten discs, right? Most of the other stuff I've bought recently isn't classic swing, but is in demand around here:

Prince
Basement Jaxx
Social Distortion
old funk
Superchunk
more Putumayo

Bought last Week end:

A Jazz Portrait of Frank Sinatra by Oscar Peterson... 10 of the 12 songs are wonderfully danceable!

Just got this, one of the best CDs I've bought so far:

Tippin' In
Erskine Hawkins
Past Perfect label

6 of the 14 tracks are great, some others are pretty good too. Remastered sound quality is excellent.

Just listened to some of the samples. Nice swinging groove, although for me the piano improvisation conflicts with the danceability.

Great album. I've largely retired it in favor of more up-tempo music but it's still got a prominent place in my book.

This was one of the best value purchases I have made. A 10-CD Duke Ellington set from the German 'Membran' label. Good remastered sound quality. Amazingly cheap price for the quality of the music and sound. Lots of danceable tracks.

Black Beauty
It Don't Mean A Thing (two different versions)
Johnny Come Lately
Jump For Joy (two different versions)
Chocolate Shake
Hip Chic
Blip-Blip

and many others

Here's my last several purchases, because the first one is already over 10 CDs.

Benny Goodman - Kingdom of Swing - 20CD set (~$30 on ebay)
Lionel Hampton - Proper Box
Chick Webb - Proper Box
Gene Krupa - Proper Box
Count Basie - Let's Jump (I got this from itunes)

I decided I needed to fill some gaps.

Trivia fact: The Gene Krupa Proper box is the first one I ever bought, before I even knew what a Proper box was, and I think it is also the first one they ever released.

I just started to listen to the Webb Proper box and I have to say actually I'm a little disappointed with some of the material. Oh well...

In my experience, the Proper box sets aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Well, a lot of us own them and are pretty happy with them. I personally get a lot of value for the money for them.
