Jesse - let me know. I will use my last LP shipping container - fresh 2 years ago from the box company.

John, is there any progress in getting the LP sent to Jesse?
A four year gap. How embarassing. Sorry. it is actually in the shippimng container, but it now seems the same LP is out on a CD as per below.

Don't hate me.

It sounds as though the first half of the LP was dubbed at the wrong speed! D'oh! At least 'Definition of Swing' is at the right tempo...
Danke for the update.

How can you tell it was dubbed at the wrong speed, Anton? Is the pitch off? Or do you have the recordings somewhere else to compare? (The tracks do sound fast to me, but for all I know they were just played fast. My ear is horrible, though, so I can't tell whether the pitch is screwy.)

John, do the mp3 files sound like the LP?

Ah well, if you get a chance on another computer some time, I'm curious.

I think the vibrato on the reeds sounds way too fast, and the drums are too high-pitched. There is also a distinct difference in sound (and average tempo) between the first eight and the last eight tracks. I don't have the original LP or other recordings to compare to, but it seems consistent with playing an LP at 45 instead of 33 rpm.

Oh, sorry for posting the wrong link.

The album can also be found on Spotify, under the name "East Rocker"! (sounds like a reggae album title...)

The word "rock" turns up here and there in early Jazz and Swing-

"It's Square, But It Rocks"

..."satisfy my soul with the rock and roll...."

"Rockin' Rollers' Jubilee"

Others....

Good that it's available, although the sound quality is poor :(. I've noticed the 'Hallmark' label have reissued a lot of old recordings recently - you can find them on Amazon and eMusic if you search for the Hallmark label. 'Definition of Swing' is certainly the right speed as far as I'm concerned. A DJ in London plays this track on vinyl (but it sounds a lot better).

Yes, that's the last track on side 2 of the LP. It's side 1 (tracks 1-8) that has the speed problem.

Yes, the earlier tracks on that album definitely sound the wrong tempo ...

Related to this: I just noticed that there's a new Bob Chester collection (The Bob Chester Story) out on Hallmark. Poor quality, but, a poor reissue is always better than no reissue.
