This is an interesting topic. I've tallied the 12 reponses so far, weighting them proportionately for those who named more than one artist.

I think I tend to lean on Kid Ory as a fail safe. I have a handful of tracks by various but if I had to pick an artist, I'd say Ory because he has stuff that can satisfy both the trad-jazz/Charleston and the swing/Lindy Hop dancers.
