Since we haven't had a new installment of the artists discussion, how about Earl Hines. I'm kind of digging his stuff from the 30's. Any recommendations/suggestions/opinions?

Yes, the Hines/Rushing album is great. Another album that I dig is a collection of his 40s/50s recordings, "Hines Shines".

Yeah, if that is a "few." I wonder what his average and large artist collections look like.

Bescol, Laserlight or some other album, Hines Shines seems to be a popular album title for Earl Hines compilations. The AMG link no longer works.

1934-1937 arrived in the mail today, and on initial listening, it sounds spectacular. Definitely check it out if you're a Hines fan.

I've had a chance to listen to 1934-1937 closely, and it's a very fun CD. My favorite track is "Rock and Rye." Here's a short clip as an example. Also, I enjoy "Bubbling Over," "Japanese Sandman," and, of course, "That's A-Plenty."

Overall, the sound quality is decent, with some minor hissing or pops on a few tracks. Most sound significantly better than that, though.

The tempo ranges from about 105 to about 240, with many tracks at the higher end. It sounds as though it would make a fun CD for dancing Charleston, as well as for Lindy - which makes sense, considering the era in which it was recorded.

Definitely check it out!
