What a shame. One of the last of the legendary, great jazz musicians.

Truth be told, he had declined musically quite a while ago, so his impact the past ten years were still only in his recordings. As such, musically, he remains just as "alive" to us today as he was years before he passed away. However, it still is somber news, but more so for him, his family and his close friends than for us.

What a great, fun, musical man he was.

I checked this site as soon as I heard. A younger friend of mine was hopefully inspired by seeing him live-- may that inspiration live on.
