Music that Swings HARD!

I am searching for music that really gets the blood pumpin! For example, Buster Smith's E-Flat Boogie and that one Coleslaw song(don't know who sings it?). Any body have some good suggestions for songs that swing hard?

i'm not sure what you're looking for. i'd guess "jam songs", but "coleslaw" really isn't. so then i have to guess "good songs", in which case the forum is filled with them. care to be a little more specific? maybe give a tempo range? a period?

anyway: the "coleslaw" you're probably thinking of is by jesse stone.

I can't really give a tempo range...it's hard to explain, but I'm talking about songs that get everyone up and dancing. I want mainly mid-tempo songs. Can ya'll help me?

Like lipi said, the forum has shedloads of them. I'd love to help but the pool you're drawing from is so large, you could be at risk of drowning.

Next time you are at a dance and you hear a song that you like, one that seems to be what you are looking for. Go ask the DJ what it was and go out and buy that song. Seek similar songs.

I think the cole slaw song you refer to is an uptempo jump blues number. So, seek out more uptempo jump blues tracks.

Go get the Buster Smith CD.

Listen to Yehoodi radio and other radio stations, sample songs on iTunes/eMusic, play CDs at the listening booth at the Used CDs stores, check CDs out from the library.

The advice is not the different than your other thread. You just have to seek the music out and use your own judgement.

another place to start is the many "beginning dj" threads. they all have album recommendations with, well, songs that get people up and dancing. :o)

"songs you are in love with" and "songs with hand clapping on the back beat" are good threads to look at, too. there's an older "songs you are in love with" thread, too, with a different title (sorry -- connexion too slow to go look for it now).

Both of these songs are both rhythm and blues songs, with very strong back beats.

This is one area, I’m not very good on, but I could suggest:

Blip Blop - Bill Doggett
Be Careful - Buddy Johnson
One Scotch One Bourbon One Beer - Amos Milburn
Jumpin' Tonight (Midnight Rockin') - Big Joe Turner
Lavender Coffin - Lionel Hampton
Milton's Boogie - Roy Milton

You’ll find that if you look into the above musicians, they will have a load of other songs of similar feel. Have fun searching.

Sweet that's what I'm talking about Brian, thank you so much. That will get me started and some insight on what swings hard and who swings hard as an artist. I also found Jimmie Lunceford and Louis Armstrong can swing pretty hard. Thanks for your help!
