Yeah that's probably it. He's really hammering away in that intro! The same high-pitched sound also returns later between 2:03 and 2:12.

That would definitely be the hi hat stand sound. The right hand is playing the hihat cymbals, and the left is sticking the stand itself. I was just guessing from memory when I said brushes.
