Songs with hand-clapping on the backbeat I've managed to remember. No particular order:

Lucky Millinder/Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Shout Sister Shout
Lucky Millinder - Fare Thee Well Deacon Jones
Lucky Millinder - Who Threw The Whiskey In The Well
Lionel Hampton - Lavender Coffin
Earl Grant - Sermonette
Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - C Jam Blues
Ella Fitzgerald, Sy Oliver - Sugarfoot Rag
Ella Fitzgerald - Goody Goody
Ella Fitzgerald - Smooth Sailing
Ray Charles - Ain't That Love
Ray Charles - Swanee River Rock

Can anyone name me some more please?
I can't really say why exactly, but it feels so great to dance to that backbeat clapping.

A super song (with a message to all Swedes who insist on clapping on 1 and 3...):

Bob Chester and His Orchestra - Clap Your Hands on the Afterbeat (1940)

It's available on 1940-1941 (Circle, ?) as well as on the Second Circle Sampler (Circle, 2003).

Totally forgot about "Yes, Indeed" and "Solid As Rock". Thank you John and Jonas.
I also forgot to mention Anita O'Day "And Her Tears Flowed Like Wine"

Song of the Volga Boatmen? Which version has hand-clapping?

Listened to the preview - that is a great song! Thanks a lot! Now I have to try to find those Circle CDs. :)

oh I agree - "Goody Goody" is definitely a go to song to get people up and dancing. The combination of Ella, the tempo, and the clapping work really well.

The original GM version from 1940...and any accurate recreations.

Oh - Benny Goodman....ummm....Six Flats Unfurnished, IIRC. Very tricky.

Glenn Miller's "Doin' the Jive" has some creative handclapping by the band.

On a related subject, I've noticed when people start clapping their hands at a dance, it's a sign that there's some dance energy in the room. It's best when people not dancing start clapping their hands. It's as if they are becoming infected by the music.

Hey Man! Hey Man! by Leo "Snub" Mosley
Do You Call Dat Religion by Clarence Williams

I'm sure many late 40s and 50s records (rock and roll) have hand-clapping, but I don't know if they would suit a swing dance.

By no means am I saying that you should do this, but it would be pretty straightforward to add claps to songs.
