That devilin tune
I'm thinking about getting the whole shebang but the price is the 2X4 between the eyes that I needed to wake me out of my drunken stupor.
Is this worth getting?

Lots of good stuff. I guess the only thing to bear in mind is that most of the sides recorded before 1925 will be of marginal interest to most people.
Also virtually everything recorded before 1925 will have been acoustically recorded. Some of the smaller record companies did not switch to electric recording until 1927.
OTOH, this set will likely niot sell many copies and will rise in price as the years go by....and you will have much rare stuff that you may or may not listen to much.

Most libraries will do
in-state inter-library loan requests. That way, you can listen to it and geek out without having to actually buy the thing for what might be a one-time use.
