It's Friday and work is slow, so I'm hoping Reub will amuse me with a running list of Groove type albums and artists he listens to at home (with frequency) that he'd never play at a dance.

Hmm... well, when I listen to music it's usually via my packed 60 gig iPod set to random. It's probably 50% Jazz of all types. Also, I don't really consider "They Came To Swing" much of a "Groove" album... it appeals to both groups... and the "cross over" stuff is pretty much as "Groove" as I get.

Maybe if people threw out some names of some prime "Groove" albums I could akya or nish nish them.

Eh, too much work for me, I'm into passive entertainment today.

I wasn't implying LCJO is "groove" anyway. The post just gave me the idea.

Ryan did choose a bad example to stir the mud.

This is an old topic that many consider boring and played, but almost all Gene Harris or (for that matter) anything with Ray Brown as the bass player would provide the best, most general example of great jazz, much of which happens to be "Groove Swing".

The Diane Schuur CD with the Count Basie Orchestra is another widespread good example that is close to "cross-over" music, but still solidly "Groove" oriented.
